Money, one of the most important resources to our society. Without money how would we be able to survive? What would we exchange resources for? What would be the point of progression? They say money makes the world go round…or does it? To answer this question I have interviewed some of my peers and here are their views.

The question that was asked is, “Does money give you power?” The first person that I have interviewed was my best friend Franklyn. He answered, “Yes money gives you power because it gives you more options. Money runs the economy so in hindsight you have more power in the decisions you make and over the people who have less money than you.”

I interviewed my RA Simon on this matter and he said, “To a large extent…in the capitalistic society we live in, money makes the world go round. Especially with certain accumulations of wealth, and people who do not have will do a lot of stuff for money and power.”

The last person I interviewed was Jerry, a friend who lives on my floor and he said, “Yeah definitely. Most things are run by money to get actual power like electricity, to pay for that, that’s money. To go to school that’s money, your reasoning for keeping a job that’s money too. Whoever controls that money controls your reason for being.”

So collectively all the people that I have interviewed have said that money does give people power. All of their points are valid, money does run this economy and without it you have less power than someone who does have money. In retrospect money is just paper, and it does not actually give you power but what you can do with this piece of paper is what’s powerful.
