Go through your time in grade school.  How many times did you have a teacher that was white  Usually a person will reply with “almost all”. Now how many times did you have a teacher that was black?  In my twelve years of grade school plus kindergarten, out of 46 teachers (from what i could get from memory) I had 1 that was black.  Of those teachers I had one female teacher who was black, but never a male.  

This is a serious issue in our education system that no one talks about much.  The shortage of black teachers in the country is concerning. Why don’t we have more?

In the United States only 20% of teachers are black.  Of that 20% only 2% of them are males. In public schools 51% of students were not white.  This shows that the teachers in public schools are less diverse than the student population.  

The big question that gets raised is why is there this gap in teachers?
