In December of 1973, The Nanjing genocide, also known as the “Rape of Nanjing”, occurred. The Japanese Imperial army invaded China in the summer of 1937. This massacre went on for six weeks in China. The Japanese would terrorize the people of China and it did not stop until March 1938. Men who were believed to be Chinese soldiers in civilian clothing were marched down, by the Japanese, to specific areas and shot.
Children were murdered on a normal basis. The Japanese would gang-rape the women in front of their families. They stole from the Chinese people. Natzi’s offered their help by setting up saafety zones for the Chinese. The Japanese people hold lantern parades to celebrate the capture of Nanking.
Trying to get out of the city, the Chinese officers would fight and push the other civilians out of the way. Sometimes the Chinese would even shoot their own Chinese people. The Japanese forced families to commit incest. They forced the fathers to rape their children and mothers. If you refused, you were killed instantly.
They buried the civilians waist-deep in the earth and then they would be attacked by German shepherd dogs; be buried alive; then they would douse them in gasoline and set them on fire.
The Japanese poured acid on the dead bodies, as well as those still alive. They would just shoot young children and civilians while on the lookout for women to rape.
Not everyone was against the Chinese. There were a few people who tried to help them. For example, John Rabe, who was a Natzi, saved multiple numbers of Chinese people. Minnie Vautrin tried to save the women.
Out of the 600,000 people living in China at the time, the Japanese killed 300,000 of them. This is just one of many examples of violence that have took place based on race.
