We are in living in scary times. An epidemic may possibly be around the corner for our planet. With the spread of the coronavirus growing exponentially and no answer for effective containment among the epicenter in the most populated region in our planet, we face a grave danger.

The world is stable and violence is at a minimum. This can change at any moment with the flick of a switch. A deadly new strain of the coronavirus, COVID-19, spreading in Asia and now the world. Starting at an illegal meat store in Wuhan, China has now reached 32 countries and that number will surely rise in just the next few days. With over 70,000 infected and over 3,000 deaths reported the world is increasingly becoming more anxious for answers.

With the likelihood of an epidemic becoming more as the number of infected rise, the world must have a plan to ensure stability and prevent mass panic. Marshall law is a final solution, an unnecessary action if we plan ahead.

Our world being in “pre-epidemic” times, we already see the effects of the anxious public. In Ukraine, an Eastern European country not too far from the main outbreak in China, is already seeing violence strung up due to the virus. With the Minister of Health in Ukraine allowing evacuees from China come back home to be under quarantine, there should be no public outcry. These Ukrainian citizens are not confirmed to be infected and will be watched until they are confirmed healthy to keep Ukraine free of the virus. Many other countries such as the United States are taking the same measures. But with social media and the spread of information being the quickest ever in the history of the world, we are seeing a new problem.

A fake email is all it took for an entire country to become engulfed in raging emotions, fearing their own safety. An email that appeared to be from the Health Minister of Ukraine, reported 5 of the evacuees coming home from China were infected with the virus already. The public went to the streets and blocked the vans containing these actually healthy evacuees from entering the country. During the protests, the windows of the vans were smashed and violence ensued.

This is just a small taste of violence this virus can cause. The world’s leaders must do everything in their power to ensure the safety of the public and prevent violence that can make this possible epidemic worse before it is too late!
