Today I interviewed a hand full of people on campus that I felt would show me a new side of things I hadn’t looked at before! I ask them all one question that I felt could spark some new ideas I haven’t heard before; and that question was… How are you????
Each of them responded a little something like this “wait is that really the question” rhis was Brandon. This sparked a comedic atmosphere in the rest of our conversation. Another said “I’m good how are you” That was Mrs. Rochelle which got a normal everyday conversation started. Now the best answer I got was from my girlfriend which was “It was very stressful I’m not gonna lie. I have classes very far apart and my first class teacher let us out 2 minutes late and I’m already rushing to get there so then I knew I was going to be late. So yeah it was a little stressful but it’s okay now cause it’s over.” -Gypsy.
This although wasn’t a happy story, it was still an important story. It was important because she felt like she wanted to let out her bad day story and get over it and i was able to help her do so. The reason I ask everyone this question is because I feel as though this is a question that isn’t asked enough. Sometimes people just need to be asked how they are to get something off their chest; but they wouldn’t have done so unless you gave them that outlet. This could be from as stupid as a bad lunch or a stubbed toe; to something terrible that isn’t okay.
This is a large problem on and off campus. It is an epidemic such as heroin in the early 90s. So today I asked “How are you?” and I encourage you to that to people on a daily basis.
