I talked to a few good friends of mine and we talked about mental health and things around that topic. Getting to see a deeper insight into how your friends feel is really interesting.

Anjeliah is 18 and is studying Entrepreneurship. She likes to do art, work on her own brand, and model from time to time. I asked her how she felt about her mental and physical health and she said, “Mentally I’m stressed… Really stressed and tired.”

Amalis is 18 and majors in Exploratory Studies. She likes to study and also model. Her response to what state her mental health was, “Pretty shitty… ”

Nick is 18 and studies Marketing. He also likes to study and model His answer, “Mentally, I am not chilling.”

Christie is 19 and is studying Law and Justice. “I don’t like showing that I’m stressed but I am. I really am.”

Josh is 22 and studies Psychology. He likes to professionally take photos and look after his studies. His answer about his mental health was, “Mentally … Let’s look at it through a camera lens. You know when your lense is unfocused? That’s what my mental health feels like. Sometimes it’s focused sometimes it blurs. That’s mental health, it fluctuates… ”

We all expressed how campus life affects their mental health. One of them said that it really came down to how much work they were given. Another said that it feels like they have to do it all by themselves because they are. In addition to that another one said, “[The Campus doesn’t] really have anything. Like yeah, they do have resources but I don’t believe that it’s enough. It’s like they want us to handle our mental health all by ourselves.”
I feel that in some shape or way we can relate and understand each other’s state of mind. We are all negatively stressed and not only about classes. On top of that, we talked about how people affect our health. “I don’t think that people realize the tiniest thing can affect somebody. They think it’s something tiny but it really [messes] with the other person’s mentality.” People who are unaware of their toxicity usually cause damage to those around them. We tend to hurt other people when we don’t keep our mental health in check.

Talking to my friends about their mental health and their take on the subject showed me a few things. A common stress factor among us is classes. Most of them feel that the majority of their professors do not consider the work from other classes or give them work that takes longer to do than the amount of time they spend in class. The overwhelming amount of work can mentally incapacitate them in some ways.
All of us agreed that looking after your mental health is super important. “It’s the top priority.”
